The Introduction of a Lifetime?

A picture of a ladybug crawling toward an aphid. Exciting stuff!

Here is an example of one of the dozens of images of insects looking trendy and glamorous that I plan on sharing with my blog audience. I consider this both groundbreaking and innovative, but my standards aren’t set that high.

Hello, and welcome to my new blog, The Introverted Traveler.  For those of you (I’m assuming most of you) who have no idea who I am and have either stumbled across this blog because you accidently clicked on the wrong link in a Google search, or because you were casually viewing my content on Instagram and figured you had a few minutes to spare and nothing better to do, my name is Steve.  I’m a middle-aged and relatively boring guy from the Sacramento area in Northern California (for now). I’m also an amateur photographer, vlogger (sometimes), and traveler.

I decided to put up a blog not because I cherish the ancient art of writing, but because I wanted a place to present both my travel adventures and my photography in more detail.  Social media sites such as Instagram and Facebook are great, but each one has their own set of limitations.  On Instagram, for example, the images I post either must be cropped or resized, and the quality and meaning of the product can suffer. Likewise, with writing, I am often limited by character count, so I’m not afforded the freedom to truly expand upon a thought or story. And while both constraints can sometimes foster focus and clever editing, I still was interested in a place where I could post probably-too-big pictures, and ramble somewhat incoherently about how I wanted a place to post probably-too-big pictures.

After tip toeing through the Tulips and attempting to sing like Tiny Tim, I snapped this photo. This is a good example of all the exciting flower-related content awaiting you in future blog updates.

And so, after much soul searching, I decided to type “places to blog” into the aforementioned Google, and I eventually landed on Squarespace. For a modest annual fee (aka more credit card debt), the website service has granted me the ability to both navigate their relatively confusing template layouts, and to post pretty much anything I want (within legal and ethical reason of course) in the size, amount, and duration that I want it.

My general plan, as vague as it sometimes is, is to use Instagram as a launch point, and to use this blog as a place to further expand on the trips I’ve taken, the places I’ve explored, and all the pictures I’ve taken along the way.  So, if you are still with me at this point in my post (TL: DR, oh look a shiny object!), thank you for reading my writing, and I hope you find something to enjoy here.  My hope is that I will update the content of this blog on a regular basis, so please feel free (or not free, it is your choice), to bookmark and return regularly at your leisure.  And please don’t hesitate to leave me a comment, or to contact me with any suggestions, complaints, or pirate-treasure-hunting offers you may have.
